Davenport

OUR LOCATION

Whale City is located in the tiny coastal town of Davenport, 10 minutes north of Santa Cruz, nestled between California State Parks, scenic beaches, Redwood hiking trails, organic farms, and artisan shops. The restaurant is located directly across the cliffs above Davenport Beach, which offers some of the best views of the Pacific Ocean on your journey down the historic and breathtaking Pacific Coast Highway.

DAVENPORT

Once a small, thriving whaling town, Davenport was first settled in the late 1800s by Captain John P. Davenport. The ranches and farms followed soon after. With Italian, Portuguese, Greek, and Latino roots, many descendants of the original Davenport families still reside here to this day, along with a community of artists, farmers, and small town lovers. You can still see examples of Davenport's varied history in landmarks such as the Davenport Jail, St. Vincent DePaul Church built entirely from local Davenport cement, the remaining local dairies and farm buildings, and the old railroad tracks that weave along the coastline. Today, locals meet daily at Whale City to enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and expansive sea views.
